ls -R | grep “:$” | sed -e ‘s/:$//’ -e ‘s/[^-][^\/]*\//—/g’ -e ‘s/^/ /’ -e ‘s/-/|/’

ls + grep + sed = tree

Stick it in tree.sh, then alias tree=’sh tree.sh’, and ta-da! You can now see your directories as a graphical tree on any system!
